TikTok Grants Viewers Authority to Reduce Artificial Intelligence-Made Videos in Their Feeds

The platform is rolling out a new feature that enables them to cut down on the volume of AI-created content appearing in their streams. This initiative comes as the platform revealed that it currently hosts in excess of 1 billion AI-generated clips.

Pilot Phase and Launch

This change is in a pilot phase over the next few weeks before a global launch. This advancement comes amid a surge in content created by AI, fueled by emerging video-generation tools.

AI Proliferation Online

Studies have shown that almost a tenth of the fastest-growing video streams on another major platform exclusively feature clips produced artificially. A considerable share of this material is considered low-quality AI content, a phrase for inferior, factory-style content that is often nonsensical or bizarre.

Based on user feedback that many people like content made with AI tools, including digital art to educational videos, and we aim to give people the power to see more or less of that, depending on their own likes,” commented a platform representative.

Scale of AI Content

The service announced that there are currently 1.3 billion videos on its service identified as AI-generated. In total, over 100 m videos are submitted to the app daily, making clips made by AI a minor part of its complete catalog.

How to Adjust Settings

Viewers will be in a position to decrease or raise the level of artificial media they view by opening the topic control option in the application and choosing the AI content topic. Additional categories that can already be modified under the tool cover politics, style, beauty, and dance.

AI Disclosure Rules

Its policies mandate content makers to label convincing AI-made content, and it forbids malicious fake videos of well-known individuals or critical incidents. Any realistic AI video that is unmarked can be taken down under its community policies.

In addition, the app will from now on add an artificially created watermark to content made using its proprietary AI systems, or identified by an cross-platform project for spotting artificial media. This step is designed to deter users from attempting to circumvent the disclosure requirement.

AI Literacy Programs

The platform is additionally introducing a $2 million awareness program for professionals and groups to create learning resources about ethical AI use. This project will benefit non-profit groups specializing in training computer science.

Platform Protection

TikTok has defended its safety measures, during controversy over intentions to cut jobs for hundreds of review team members in Britain. The company is set to reduce 439 jobs in its trust and safety team in its British office, with worker representatives and online safety experts expressing worry that staff are being displaced by machine-led review.

A company official explained that people-led review would remain essential, but AI can safeguard staff by eliminating the most harmful content ahead of it has to be seen by humans. TikTok reported a 76% decrease in explicit and harmful content handled by human moderators over the last 12 months due to reliance on its machine learning processes.

“We think that it’s essential to integrate humans and technology to maintain a secure environment,” the official commented. “We’ll have humans as part of that process, but we also think it’s very important to reduce exposure to unsafe media as swiftly, which is where a lot of the machine support is proving valuable operate efficiently.”
